I was gifted the name Niseema when I was 19 years old, a time when I was really trying to figure out who I was and where I fit in the world. When I received my name, I was told that it meant "One with Unbound Love" and something shifted inside of me.
Since that moment, I've been trying to stay true to that intention. When I how loudly my heart sings when I am studying and teaching all things relationships and sexuality, I knew I needed more. I mean, what better way to embody love, than to honour yourself and that which brings you pleasure.
Over the course of my life, I've had many rich experiences that have brought me to where I am today. I've been studying and teaching various areas of sexuality for over 10 years, as I moved further into my learning, my focus expanded into relationships and the mind body connection. More recently, my learning has deepened again, into the world of trauma and it's effects on relationships, sexuality and the mind body connection.
The very first course I ever attended on sexuality was a Tantra retreat on Bowen Island in my early 20's- An incredibly eye opening and inspiring experience. This retreat was my first step into the world of sexual healers, helpers and deep personal growth. Since then, I have participated in many workshops, trainings and courses. Some of which include: A 2 year clinical sexology & professional sex coaching diploma program from Sex Coach U, bodywork and massage certification with an emphasis on mind-body connection through Vancouver School of Healing Arts, Somatica Method- Level 1 & 2 through the Somatica Institute, Gestalt therapy level 1 certification through Gestalt Association of LA and most recently, a professional Counselling diploma through Vancouver College of Counsellor Training.
I also have lived experience with trauma, which has created a deep understanding (and interest) in helping others overcome it's effects on our lives- Including dissociation, trauma responses, coping/survival mechanisms and how all of these things affect our relationships and sexuality.
Beyond all of that, I live in this world as a cis-woman, I've held the hand of someone while they took their last breathes, I love to read books (even when the fog of anxiety was taking up too much space to understand everything), I have way more stretch marks than I'm comfortable with but I maintain my body positive stance in the world. I love to laugh and could probably afford to do it more often. Hiking in the forest with my dog is a favourite way to spend my time and when it's warm enough, swimming in the many abundant lakes on the Sunshine Coast. I can also be quite awkward at the most inconvenient moments!
I look forward to hearing your story and standing with you in the next parts of it.
